Sketchbook Project Part 1

I recently participated in The Art House Co-Op Limited Edition Sketchbook Project. The Sketchbook Project Limited Edition Vol. 1 is a collaborative series of art books created by 5000 artists from around the world. Once I filled out the entry form and paid my fee, the Art House Co-Op mailed me a blank sketchbook. I had to fill the entire sketchbook with artwork and return it on or before April 30, 2012.

Each blank sketchbook had a theme. My theme was "The Science of Story." There were no rules for this project. Participants were allowed to draw whatever they wish regardless of the supplied theme. The medium was up to the artist. Some participants filled their sketchbooks with photography; others painted. I chose to draw a series of autobiographical journal comics. I drew them digitally on my Cintiq. Once I printed the finished pages, I removed the blank pages from the supplied sketchbook and replaced them with my printed pages.

24 Hour Comic 2011: Comic Con Cowboy

As promised, here is page 2 of my 24 Hour comic. Here, I discuss my recent comic con experience. Two Gun Kid is a reference to a western comic book published by Marvel.

24 Hour Comic 2011: Introductions Aside

Well, another 24 Hour Comic Day has come and gone. Unfortunately, this year I did not successfully meet the challenge. I came SO close. I woke up early Saturday morning, took a shower, ate some breakfast and hunkered down for a marathon of cartooning. I drew from 9am Saturday to 9am Sunday. After 24 consecutive hours of drawing, my final page count was 19. Around 9:30, I went to sleep. Later that evening, I woke up and finished the remaining five pages. This year, I didn't watch the clock or worry about the deadline. I concentrated on the art. It was a much more enjoyable experience. It was a fun experience and I look forward to doing it again next year. Recently, I drew a series of journal comics. I enjoyed them so much, I decided to take a journal comic approach to my 24 hour comic.  I'll be posting a page per day so check back each day for a new page.

Journal Comics: April 1, 2011

Recently, our 4 After 5 group decided to try our hand at journal comics. The idea is simple. Instead of writing a daily journal, you draw it. We drew a daily journal comic for one week. I loved the experience. I'd love to do more in the future.

This comic was based on a true story that happened to me at work. I really do hate April Fool's Day.
