Surf's Up

If you look at the original artwork, I drew these in a vertical format on a letter size sheet of paper (in pencil; I didn't even ink these). When I decided to post these, I didn't like the layout. Just to experiment, I tried to lay out the strip in a horizontal, Sunday comics format. I think it looks and reads MUCH better. I think this demonstrates how crucial layout is a part of the art of comic strips and cartooning.

  1. I love that, not only do his inventions have nothing to do with eating ants, but they are actually counter intuitive to anything involving the catching or eating of ants

  2. Yeah, I know. It's weird. Even when Ernie and Arnie (the ants) are around him, he's not even trying to eat them. They're more like his test subjects.
